While the Cowrie Dancer is floating abandoned in the southern seas, the SA Agulhas crew have received high praise. Sadly, 55 year old Australian sailor, John Blackman was ripped overboard by rough seas. He has not been seen since.
Rescued, Carol Erasmus, the 32 year old Kwa Zulu Natal engineer on board 'Cowrie Dancer' said, she had never seen such huge waves before.
Erasmus and sailor, John Blackman, were trying to secure the broken mizzen when a huge wave hit the yacht on Monday, ripping Blackman overboard, even though he was attached to the yacht by his safety harness.
"We were really hoping to find him."
said Erasmus, and thinks about, what he must have gone through.
The Agulhas will take the crew to Marion Island, then on to Cape Town on May 12.
