The whole Internet community is up in arms over the recent censorship of the HD DVD hex code that has been leaked to many websites. Digg users value freedom of speech and this has gotten them virtually rioting the site.
Earlier today Wikipedia had the following written, 'May 1st 2007 was the day that Digg died'.
It is very possible that today will be the day that marks the end (or atleast a drop in popularity) of one of the highest valued player on the net. This would be the first time that something like this happened on Digg or even on the mainstream internet and sponsorship seems to be the name of the game.
What has Digg users up in arms is that the Hex code for the HD DVD system had been leaked. Once the leak occurred, Digg quickly acted on it and began to remove any traces of the hex code from their side and has temporarily banned the digits. Although the Digg blog is saying that they were forced to remove it, I believe it has more to do with sponsorship and that the DiggNation show was sponsored by HD-DVD.
What does that exactly mean? Well, now Linux users can enjoy HD-DVD as well and the whole format becomes accessible. However, the HD-DVD team does not want this and instead wants to keep the format closed.
So now Digg users are angry and are revolting by posting up nothing but the digits on the front page and damaging their algorithm for front page stories.
I will keep everyone updated as the situation progresses and will also add more information.

[UPDATE 1] Some new things have happened with Digg in the past hour. They temporarily froze posting comments for notive users, prevented any story from being submited or frontpaged and may other measures making the situation even worse. This isnt about the HD-DVD anymore, it's about freedom of speech.
It appears that Digg users are proactively frontpaging all articles related to this and are destroying everything else. The final outcome will be an interesting one.
