article imageBush Vetoes troop funding bill

By Thespian     May 1, 2007 in Politics
WASHINGTON -
President Bush vetoed legislation to pull U.S. troops out of Iraq Tuesday night in a historic showdown with Congress over whether the unpopular and costly war should end or escalate.
No big surprise, but the news is in. The pen has come down, and the President has refused to fund the troops.
Now we get to see what the Congress does. Most expect that a new version without time tables will come out.
I think the Congress should use its "power of the purse" and stand firm. They have all ready funded all other aspects of the military for this year. Nobody is denying the troops funding for armor, food, and the tools to do their job.
This is a question of policy. The majority of Americans have clearly expressed their will to get the troops out of Iraq, and withholding funding seems to be the only way Congress, and the voice of the people, can make themselves be heard.
