R&B singer R. Kelly and Jive Records will release an inspirational song for Virginia Tech victims. One hundred percent of proceeds will be donated to support the victims' families.
Singer R. Kelly was so touched by the April 16 massacre at Virginia Tech that he decided to compose an inspirational song to offer hope and strength for those affected. The song, produced by Jive Records, will be released digitally on May 15, with all proceeds going to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund.
The fund provides counseling and financial support to the families of the victims killed in the shooting, as well as others affected by the tragedy.
The lyrics include the lines:
"Rise up, when you feel you can't go on, rise up, and all of your hope is gone, rise up, when you're weak and you can't be strong."
R. Kelly, 40, (aka Robert Sylvester Kelly), is a urban R&B singer and multiple Grammy award winner. Kelly, who has sold 35 million albums worldwide, has had such hits as "I Believe I Can Fly" and "Bump N Grind."
The singer has had his share of controversy int he past.. In 2002, he was arrested on 21 counts of having sex with a 14-year-old.
