After telling us all last week he was going to keep his mouth shut, Alec Baldwin has decided to apologize to his daughter on national television and we'll all be able to see him do it today on The View.
Today, actor Alec Baldwin will apologize to his 11-year-old daughter on national television after calling her a "thoughtless little pig". Well, isn't that special? Baldwin will appear on "The View" for his first TV interview since he left his rambling, ranting voice-mail message to his daughter that was made public last week on the Internet. Baldwin has also publicly stated that he was ready to give up acting after nearly 30 years.
Baldwin and his ex-wife, Kim Basinger, are in the middle of an often bitter and very public six-year custody dispute over their daughter, Ireland. He has said that he wants to spend more of his time lobbying for reforms in divorce, parental visitation and custody laws. "I would like to devote myself to the cause of parental alienation," the 49-year-old star said on "The View" airing on Friday. He added that he was finishing work on a book about divorce that is due for publication in September.
Baldwin says that he asked NBC to free him from his co-starring role as an egoistic TV executive on their popular sitcom "30 Rock". However, the network is says that it will not release Baldwin from his contract. "We look forward to having him continue his role in the show", NBC is quoted as saying. The show has already been renewed for a second season.
The popular television therapist Dr. Phil McGraw said that Alec Baldwin had called him for advice on Thursday and that the two had a "far-reaching, intense conversation" about the situation with his daughter and his ex-wife, Basinger.
Dr. Phil, who offered on the CNN talk show "Larry King Live" as well as on his own tv show, Dr. Phil, to counsel the family, said that Baldwin had given him permission to reveal to the general public that the two had talked and that he also had "reached out privately" to Ms. Basinger.
Well, don't you all, for the sake of this poor child, Ireland, hope that Dr. Phil can work some of his magic on these two so-called "adults"?
After six years, one can only hope that they will be able to take a step back and try to work toward a solution that is in the best interest of the child, and not their own over-inflated egos.
