Denmark's newborn Princess is shown to the public for the first time after it was born last Saturday.
Denmark's newborn princess slept soundly during her first public appearance yesterday as her parents, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, showed off their second child to reporters.
The princess was born on Saturday, with her proud mother, Crown Princess Mary, showing her to the public for the first time. Mary said the baby has been very good and kind to her. The baby is yet to be named, but for now Mary calls her “lille pige”, Danish for little girl.
Prince Frederik and his wife Mary already have an 18 month old son, Christian, who is second in line to the Danish throne after this father. His newborn sister will be the third in line to the throne. Mary said Christian was very happy to see his sister and is very affectionate to her.
Prince Frederik said he and Mary are very fortunate and lucky to have a girl.
The palace banned the use of flash photography for the royal family's departure from the hospital as security kept the crowds of well-wishers and media in line. Many Danes arrived at the hospital bearing Danish and Australian flags in hopes of catching a glimpse of the new princess.
From the hospital, the Royal family went to their home Fredensborg Castle, 35 kilometers north of Copenhagen.
Denmark is the second oldest monarchy after Japan; it has been surviving for more than 1000 years.
