Mathew Winkler's 9 year old daughter testifies at her Mothers trial. Mary Winkler is accused of killing Mathew Winkler.
Patricia Winkler took the stand Monday to testify about the morning her mother killed her father.
Patricia kept her composure as she recalled how she heard a "big boom" come from her parents' room on the morning that her father was shot.
"It seemed like somebody fell on the ground," Patricia told the jury. "I went to mama and daddy's room to see what had happened. I saw daddy laying on the floor face down."
Matthew Winkler, a 31-year-old preacher at the Fourth Street Church of Christ in this west Tennessee town, was found dead in the parsonage where the family lived in March 2006. A day later, Mary Winkler was arrested on the Alabama coast 340 miles away, driving in the family minivan with Patricia and her two younger sisters.
Mary Winkler's attorney describes Mathew as a good father and husband, but was known for his dictator way towards his family. Patricia, the daughter never saw him mistreat her Mother according to her testimony.
Mary Winkler's best friend says she never saw any signs of physical or emotional abuse given by Mathew. She visited the couple often and the couple always appeared very happy.
Defense attorneys have said the shooting was accidentally, Mary Winkler only meant to hold the gun on Mathew until he discussed his personal problems with her.
According to the prosecution there was a check-kiting scheme unfolding and Mary did not want her husband to find out about her involvement.
