article imageBilingual Rapist Who Has Fooled UK Police Is Still On The Run

By Michelle Duffy     Apr 14, 2007 in Crime
A rapist is still on the run after jumping bail in the UK eight months ago. Police think he is in Europe
Andrew Alderman, 48, who was originally from Maidstone, Kent, was on bail and disappeared on the day he was found guilty on the 31st of August, last year.
After he as found guilty, he was sentenced to 10 years for the rape, indecent assault and sexual activity with a 15 year old minor. Her mother is undoubtedly furious that he hasn't been caught and feels that he still has a hold over her daughter, according to an interview for the BBC. The mother wept as she said of her daughter, "She'll be OK one minute and then she'll be like a crumpled heap on the floor the next."
There is no question that the man has managed to flee the UK and is somewhere in Europe. The police have managed to trace his movements on CCTV where they have gathered pictures of Alderman at the Channel Tunnel terminal at Folkstone, also in Kent, shortly after he jumped bail.
Police believe Alderman has fled abroad. He was caught on CCTV at the Channel Tunnel terminal in Folkestone, Kent, in the early hours of 31 August.
Kent police have since been working very closely with the European liaison squad and with interpol. They think that he may be moving from country to country very easily as he can speak many European languages.
Despite the fact that the rapist has been on the run for eight months now, the police still confirm that this type of situation is a very rare occurrence. Not only can Alderman be difficult to trace due to him being bilingual but also because he was a convicted rapist who was then granted bail.
Detective Inspector, David Berry from the leading police force in Kent for the manhunt said, "When we do arrest people for this very serious offence then the likelihood is that they will be remanded in custody."
The hunt continues.....
