U.S. military escalation may not be going so well. The violence in Iraq seems like the Energizer Bunny.
BAGHDAD, Iraq -- Today, reports are emerging that 56 people were killed by a car bomb in Karbara.
Thursday, there was a suicide attack inside the Green Zone in Baghdad in a parliament building. The Green Zone is so named because it is supposed to be the safest place in Iraq.
On Wednesday, a car bomb killed 17 people near Mahmudiyah.
Meanwhile, the increase in the U.S. military's presence in Iraq continues:
The U.S. commander of day-to-day military operations in Iraq said Friday he would make a recommendation this summer on how long to continue the American troop buildup in Baghdad and left open the possibility of a long-term increase.
According to The Christian Science Monitor: "Although sections of the city remain war zones – and attacks are up outside Baghdad – there are new pockets of relative calm emerging."
The CSM reported overall violence is down thanks to the troop surge, but many Iraqis are fleeing their homeland because they are sick of the war.
"The situation is unbearable, we are getting married on Thursday and then off to Syria," said Aseed Yasin of Baghdad.
But others citizens are seeing signs of improvement.
"Two months ago we had no one; now business has improved by 65 percent," says Lamia Ali, a salesperson at the Grand bridal store.
