Apple has announced that 100 Million iPods have been sold worldwide as of April 9, 2007. This is a major achievement for any product and it all began November 2001.
Apple announced today that 100 million iPods have been sold. This makes the iPod the fastest-selling music player in history. All this began back in November 2001 when Apple introduces the iPod. Back then Apple was still a young vibrant company, but was not able to reach out to consumers.
In the next 5 years Apple would release 11 new models including five generations of iPods, two generations of iPod Minis, two generations of iPod Nanos and two generations of iPod Shuffles. Along with the music players, Apple released iTunes and the iTunes Store (formerly the iTunes Music Store).
The iPod has also been the target of 4,000 accessories which range from cases or speakers and more the 70 per cent of US 2007-model automobiles currently offer iPod connectivity.
At this historic milestone, we want to thank music lovers everywhere for making iPod such an incredible success,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPod has helped millions of people around the world rekindle their passion for music, and we’re thrilled to be a part of that.
When Apple first unveiled the iPod, the company was doing quite poorly. They were unable to sell their OS X operating systems and their Mac hardware. However, with the iPod they struck gold and were able to take that and translate it into success for the rest of their line up.
Apple has really done a good job with the iPod and by making the iPhone they can deliver it to even more people. If the iPhone falls into the trend of the iPod we should be expecting 100 Million iPhones sold by the 2012.
