Striped rabbit is the one of the rare species of rabbit in the world. This is spotted for the third time in the last 35 years.
The Wildlife Conservation Society said they photographed the striped rabbit in Sumatran late in January on the Indonesian island. "The species is listed as critically endangered by the World Conservation Union, due to loss of habitat."
Scientist said it was earlier spotted and photographed in 1972 and later in 2000. In 1999 the researchers found another species of striped rabbit in Annamite Mountains which is between Laos and Vietnam which was named it as Annamite striped rabbit. They also added that they are in need to protect the habitat of the species.
"This rabbit is so poorly known that any proof of its continued existence at all is great news, and confirms the conservation importance of Sumatra's forests," Mr Poole said.
