Thailand bans YouTube again for the second time.
Mashable.com reports that Thailand has just blocked YouTube for a second time, due to a video mocking King Bhumibol Adulyadej shown in the video here.
Thailand’s Communications Minister Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom had YouTube blocked after their requests to Google to have the clip taken down were ignored. Thailand blocked YouTube before for showing related to clips from a CNN interview that features Thailand’s ex-Prime Minister Thaksin. Thaksin was ousted by the Military and they didn't like Thaksin getting too much exposure because of YouTube. This second ban was because of this video which mocks the King. Also religious groups, Buddhists have voiced their anger not because of mocking the King but because of some images, one of the clips shows a pair of women's feet (the lowest part of the body) above the head (the highest part of the body)
If one criticizes royalty in Thailand, it is a crime punishable by up to 15 years in jail. Mashable.com asks why Google is resisting Thailand's request to take down this video while agreeing to China's requests to ban certain videos? I can only say Money and Power, China has more clout than Thailand.
Do you agree with Thailand's Ban on YouTube? Should YouTube take the video down? How it is OK to offend George Bush but not the King?
