Dolly Parton to receive John Mercer Award from Songwriters Hall of Fame
Country music legend, Dolly Parton has been selected by the Songwriters Hall of Fame to be the recipient of the John Mercer Award on June 7 at the annual dinner in New York.
The award is given annually to a songwriter whose body of work has tremendous impact and high quality -- the standard set by John Mercer himself.
'Previous honorees include Kris Kristofferson, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Carole King, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Hal David and Burt Bacharach.'
Chances are, even if you're not a country music fan, you've heard a few songs penned by Dolly. Her writing has had a profound influence on many musicians over the years.
