Janet Gretzky, wife of hockey legend Wayne Gretzky, is speaking out about a betting scandal that came about a year ago.
Janet Gretzky gave an interview to Chatelaine's magazine that will be published in next month's issue of the magazine.
Last year her name was involved in a New Jersey police investigation that was called "Operation Slap Shot".
They had accused her of placing large bets with a gambling operation. The bets were in the thousands of dollars.
She claims that she has never placed any bets on her husband's behalf and she denied being involved in the gambling ring.
She said the media coverage was unfair and was an attempt to "paint something that just wasn't true." "It's unfair that Wayne and I have had a great marriage for 20 years and a nice family, and the people in the media could care less if they are trying to cause friction in your marriage, trouble in your family, and make your kids feel a certain way,"
Police said the bets were financed by Rick Tocchet. He is was an assistant coach with the Phoenix Coyotes who has been suspended and could face up to 10 years in prison if found guilty of the charges. Wayne Gretzky is now the coach of this team.
