A pit bull made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the humans he loves from a cobra.
In the Philippines, a pit bull, the Fronteras family pet protected
'Liberata la Victoria, 87, and her granddaughter Maria Victoria Fronteras' from a deadly cobra.
The dog, Cheif, alerted them to the presence of the cobra while they were watching television. Cheif warned them in time to leave the room, but when Maria returned to see if the snake was gone, she found herself face to face with a cobra poised for attack--hood open and spitting.
Cheif rushed to the rescue, putting himself in front of the snake and taking the attacks himself, then seizing the snake by the neck and killing it. Sadly, Cheif received a fatal bite to the face.
Cheif held on long enough for Marlone, Maria's husband, to rush home.
'"Chief gave his two deep breaths and died. He was fighting and saving his last ounces of breath to see a glimpse of his master for the last two seconds of his life." The last thing Chief did as he gazed up at Marlone was wag his tail.'
The story is a little over a month old. I only found it yesterday and just had to post something about it. It's the unyielding loyalty and absolute willingness to sacrifice themselves to protect and please their humans that makes pit bulls such wonderful pets. While I realize that there's a potential for violence (which is true for all dogs), a pit bull that has been loved, well treated and taught to behave is no more dangerous than a poodle. And mine seems convinced that he
is a poodle.
