A potential breakthrough may have been developed, or at least conceived of, in dealing with the almost endemic problem of the lack of blood donations.
A company called ZymeQuest is working with a group of scientists on an experimental plan that would convert readily available blood types into the more rare type O blood, which is considered a 'precious' commodity, according to the scientist's involved in the research.
Given the urgent nature of the problem at hand, this will literally be a life-saver for many patients.
