Barbie Bandits Bail Reduced

By Carolyn E. Price     Mar 31, 2007 in Crime
In Marietta, Georgia, one of the 'Barbie Bandits' is looking to get out on bail and a judge agrees to reduce it to $10,000.
On of the Barbie Bandits was back in court last week for a probable cause hearing. Heather Johnston's lawyer also asked County Superior Court Judge Frank Cox to reduce her $26,000 bond, which he agreed to do and lowered it to $10,000. The other Barbie, Ashley Miller, waived her hearing and remains in jail in lieu of posting bond.
Judge Cox set the conditions of Ms. Johnston's release as follows: she will have to live with her parents and will also have to live under a seven-day-a-week curfew from 9 p-m to 7 a-m.
Johnston's parents sat with their pastor a few rows away during the hearing. Afterwards, her parents told reporters that they are relieved the bond was lowered and are looking forward to getting their daughter back on the right path. Now all they have to do is figure out a way to come up with the bond money.
At the hearing, a Cobb County police detective testified that after the two young women robbed the bank, they went on a shopping spree, ate a meal, stopped at a salon and then in a sign of good citizenship, they even gave money to the homeless.
Detective Brad McEntyre was called to the stand to outline the details of the case against Heather Johnston and Ashley Miller and the aftermath of the bank heist. The two have been charged with felony theft and marijuana possession.
"I want (people) to know that her and Heather both are not bandits," Joy Miller told ABC's "Good Morning America" Monday." "They're little girls that made a bad choice."
Johnston's father, Edward Johnston, has said his family was still in shock over what his daughter had done. "God gives us free will and it's up to us what we do with it. Any adult has to make decisions and live with them -- good, bad or indifferent."
Well, I for one am glad to know that he raised his daughter up right enough so that she gave some of her ill-gotten gains away to a good cause.
