By warrenpeace     Mar 28, 2007 in Crime
Children on holiday,on a bus, in Manila were held hostage, in order for one man to make a statement against corruption and the condition of impoverished children.
In order to denounce corruption and demand better lives for impoverished children, Jun Ducat, a 56-year old Civil Engineer in Manila took a bus load of children on holiday as hostages.
There was a 10-hour negotiation and stand-off before the situation was brought under control. Jun Ducat who is known for his other attention-getting scenarios in the past, threatened to throw the grenade as the children huddled together and clutched their toys in fear. He released the children as he had promised via a loud-speaker communication. However, after a while Ducat, put the pin back into the grenade and surrendered to the provincial Governor Luis Singson.
After the stand-off ended Ducat said at an Interview, to the Associated Press, "I accept that I should be jailed because what I did was against the law."Happy parents rushed to their children after they were released, clutching their toys, dolls and backpacks.
Sen. Roman Revilla, a former action movie star, was in touch with Jun Ducat and said that he had dangled a grenade with the pin pulled out and threatened them with it. The final end to the stand-off was low-key and not as dramatic as was expected. It all ended on a happy note after the candle-light vigil and the peaceful surrender by Jun Ducat.
