TiVo has launched a media sharing service letting Series2 and Series3 customers share home movies over the Internet with TiVo-owning friends and family...for a fee.
If you own a Series2 or Series3 TiVo and you have a collection of movies that you would love to share with your family and friends, but couldn't be asked with posting out DVD's then you will be really interested in this new service from TiVo and One True Media called 'TiVo Home Movie Sharing'.
TiVo aren't charging any extra but you will have to pay either $3.99 a month or $39.99 per year to 'One True Media' to be able to create a custom channel that you can invite your family and friends to subscribe to. But if your quick you can take part in the free trail that ends on April 30th, probably US only.
Instead, users create a digital video montage at One True Media, upload their favorite videos and photos, and share the montage on their own personal channel only accessible to invited TiVo subscribers. TiVo subscribers then select a Season Pass recording which automatically pulls down the latest content from the channel when it's updated and adds it to the subscribers' Now Playing lists.
One True Media CEO Mark Moore said "We're thrilled that this relationship allows our users to benefit even more from this compelling new way to share life's greatest moments."
The service is called 'Home Movie' as it's only really meant for footage that you have filmed yourself, but I wonder how long it will take for people to start share pirated DVDs with there extreme large families?
