Mar 17, 2007 - Oprah Opens Another South African School - 13 comments
Environmentally friendly academy funded by Winfrey's Angel Network
in Shayamoya South Afirca , KwaZulu-Natal province Oprah has opened a second school that is environmentally friendly and she hopes it will become a model for public education. She named her school The Seven Fountains Primary School and it has been funded by Oprah's Angel Network. The point of the school is to promote literacy and education. Oprah says that the school is an example of what all schools in South Africa could become.
The school has been redone by Oprah. She first visited the school in 2002 when it was located on a poor farm. But the school was relocated to a new building because conditions of the farm were so bad. The new building that it was relocated to had no windows, little electricity & water, and only four toilets.
The new school costs 40 million dollars. is lavishly landscaped. It even has a system that reuses the rain water that falls onto the schools rooftop due to a limited water supply. The school even grows its own food for the school meals in an on site garden. It even is solar powered. The school was built on a 52 acre farm. The school is completly out done and each girl lives in a 2 bedroom suite.
