article imageSister of Dying Man Refuses to Donate Bone Marrow to Save His Life

By Chris V. Thangham     Mar 25, 2007 in Health
Cancer victim Simon Pretty needs a bone marrow transplant, his sister is a perfect match but refuses to donate.
The sister of a man who is dying of leukemia is refusing to donate bone marrow to the British man, according to a London newspaper.
Simon Pretty is a cancer victim, the only chance of his survival is a bone marrow transplant and his sister Helen Pretty seems to be the best match so far. But she refuses to donate her bone marrow.
Without the donation by the end of the year, Simon Pretty will die and leave behind his wife Jacqueline and three children, Rebecca, 8, Jack 6 and Benjamin 3.
The Hospital also searched for other bone marrow matches, there has been none found so far. They have contacted other countries to get a possible match.
Simon Pretty told the press that he is on a death row and couldn't believe that his sister would refuse this request and make her family suffer later without a father to his children.
He said: "The treatment is tough and it is tortuous to go on with, especially as it would be unnecessary had she come forward. I have had a skin full of chemotherapy and all the side effects but I have a young family and I have to keep my spirits up for them."
Helen Pretty declined to comment for the story. When his wife tried to talk to her, she just slammed the door and said about her brother's plight, it is too sad, but she can't do it. Initially when Simon Pretty had this cancer, she had agreed to donate but later changed her mind. They have never been close, but both the family's children play together.

Some say he shouldn't have publicized this story, he said he is just trying to raise awareness and seek help for his family.
I think it is pretty mean to hold grudges in instances like this, instead of helping and giving him a hand she is acting strange. It will come back and haunt her, hope she changes her mind before it is too late at least for the sake of his children.
