By Sarawanan Ravindran     Mar 21, 2007 in Technology
Gamers wanted it and now it's here. This new package comes with a 'limited edition' black, 120GB hard drive and HDMI port.
Engadget has revealed and confirmed that the black 360 is coming, unfortunatly it will only be black for a short time and it will cost you.
The Elite model will be in 'limited quantites'. The number of console they will produce is still unknown, but if the console is successful there is a chance that it will stay black. The package includes the case, controller and headset all in black.
The pricing of the Elite model will be at $479 in the US and somewhere in the $500 range in Canada. These Elite models will be discontinued once the initial ones are sold out and will feature become the Premium package with everything the same as the Elite except it will come in white. This is an indicator that the Core package may get eliminated and replaced with the current premium package. The process of this change will likely happen in late 2007
Some other things to note is that HDDVD will not be bundled with this package and built in WiFi is still not available on the system which empasizes online play. However the add-on WiFi can be purchased for $120.
This package will sell out fast seeing how much demand there was for it. This is another blow for Sony, because with the inclusion of HDMI on the 360, it will be able to provide equal video quality.
The only thing that is really missing on the 360 is a larger storage medium like BluRay or HDDVD built in for playing games which require more storage. But one then goes on to wonder if the 360 can save information from the disk onto the harddrive (which is 120GB on this system) and play it directly from there.
