Man arrested in death of woman set to testify against him

By Brandigal (Donna)     Mar 20, 2007 in Crime
A Brooklyn man was arrested in the fatal sneak-attack slashing of a woman who had agreed to testify against him in a case alleging he raped her.
Natasha Ramen, 20, was killed from a wound that went just about from ear to ear.
Hemant Megnath, 29, was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
The victim was set to testify against him on rape charges. She met him while apartment hunting and he worked for a real estate broker. She claimed he raped her in his apartment, May 2005. He tricked her into going there. He was released on a $5,000 bail while he was awaiting the pretrial hearing April 9.
He was again charged in 2006 for threatening Natasha and her family in retaliation for the rape allegation.
She was heading to work and coming out of her apartment when he grabbed her and slit her throat. She died 14 hours later in the hospital before she could identify him but the attack was all witnessed by her landlord.
Hemant went into hiding but police found him at a co-worker's home but no weapon was recovered.
