Inquiry demand over 34 fractures

By Steve in the UK     Mar 19, 2007 in Health
The family of a County Tyrone woman, Mary McGinley, 78, has demanded an investigation into how her body was treated after she died of pneumonia in hospital.
Mary McGinley, 78, died at Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry in January but her family was told after the post mortem examination that she had 34 rib fractures. Most of which were sustained after her death.
A hospital spokesperson said the incident would be investigated.
Mrs McGinley's son, James, has stated that his family want to know what happened to their mother's body. The hosipital has started an investigation but has yet to release any details about the incident.
Her son also said that "We want answers, what happened and why it happened - you don't get 34 broken bones just by carrying you from one place to another."
I just hope that these injuries where caused by a genuine accident and not from malpractice.
