When your the Best Man at a wedding and you can't be there, send a cardboard cut out of yourself instead
Andy Priaulx was meant to be Best Man at his friend's wedding, but an important race meeting in Brazil proved to be a stronger calling, so he sent a pre recorded message and a life size cardboard cut out of himself to conduct his duties for the day.
It proved to be a great idea when the cut out, was propped up and the play button was pressed on the recorder machine. The twice world touring car champion went down a storm at the wedding where the guests laughed and cried all the way through his speech, reports the Daily Mirror newspaper.
The Bride, Carlee Yates, 27 and the Groom, Andy Richmond, 34, were totally touched at the idea of their friend being in two places at once. Just to prove that there was no bad feeling from Priaulx not being able to make it, the Bride even danced with the cut out at the reception.
The BMW racing driver went to great lengths to create the perfect cut out and hired a sign maker especially for the job so he could 'attend' the wedding at Castle Cornet, in Guernsey.
If that wasn't enough, in the race at Brazil, he wore a message on his crash helmet saying 'good luck.'
Carlee said: "It was brilliant. It was funny and emotional, a real tear-jerker. Andy pulled out all the stops. He was determined to be in two places at once."
A true Best Man of the day.
