Elizabeth May seeks central Nova nomination
Elizabeth May, Canada’s green party leader announce today that she is seeking the party’s nomination for the riding Central Nova in the next federal election. Cape Breton Island for a number of years said:
“This is where it all started. Nova Scotia is where I began my lifelong vocation as an activist and political campaigner. It is entirely fitting that I now come back here to launch my first full campaign as leader of the Green Party of Canada.”
May did well in 2006’s by-election in London North centre where she won 26% of the vote and finished in second place. She finished ahead of both the NDP and Conservative candidates.
May is counting on the fact that the Green Party has been rising in the Canadian polls and the string interest that Canadians are showing in the environment. May stated that she will launch a new Antigonish Movement during her campaign. The Antigonish Movement is intended to generate sustainable economic opportunities in communities across Canada.
