The Toronto Transit Commission announced a new plan today, which would link the four corners of the city with a light rail network. Although Toronto desperately needs an updated transit system, the cost could derail the project before it starts.
As usual there is no commitment from either Provincial or Federal Governments to do much more than pay lip service. TTC officials admit that even if they spent 6 billion on the transit plan, it would take 15 years for the city to pay off almost half a billion.
Everything comes with a cost however, local citizens like myself, might as well get used to the idea. On the plus side, it is estimated that the plan could move 175 million people per year, and many of those would be leaving their cars at home.
However, I don't know how they can even think about expansion, when they constantly complain about the lack of millions needed for upkeep alone.
