By sibananda     Mar 16, 2007 in World
Despite its anti satellite weapon test in January China has advocated for
non-militarisation of outer space.
Amid criticism of destruction of a defunct weather satellite in space Chinese
premier said " China opposes the militarisation of outer space"
Wen Jiabao said the January test that destroyed a defunct Chinese weather satellite was not targeted at any nation.
"China always advocates for the peaceful utilization of outer space, and we are always opposed to an arms race in outer space," Wen said in Beijing's Great Hall of the People.
Chinese premier urged concerned nation to sign "international convention on the peaceful utilization of outer space."
U.S. and Japan were concerned about 17.8% hike in China's defense budget and wanted a clarification. The premier told that China's "limited armed forces" were maintained purely for "safeguarding the country's security, independence and sovereignty,"
The international body were concerned about anti satellite missile test
and U.S. had first reported the same. It is a threat to space stations
in the space. Due to this test large number of debris was scattered in
outer space.
China has asked for a treaty to use space for non military purposes
but it is a matter of question when countries are not obeying the NPT
will they obey the proposed treaty?/
