Sixty million cans and pouches of wet pet food were recalled Friday, linked to kidney failure in pets.
Canadian-based pet food manufacturer, Menu Foods, is recalling 60 million containers of wet dog and cat food sold in cans or pouches due to an unknown illness causing vomiting and kidney failure. At least 10 animals have died so far.
The affected products were sold under Wal-Mart, Safeway, Kroger and other store brands in North America between December 3 and March 6, but Menu Foods is still gathering information about the extent of the problem. They won't announce what brands are affected until Saturday.
"At this juncture, we're not 100 percent sure what's happened," said Paul Henderson, the company's president and chief executive officer.
Specific information will be posted on its Web site —

The recall was announced after pet owners complained that their cats and dogs were experiencing vomiting and kidney failure after eating the food. Tests have not yet revealed the cause of the illnesses.
