Police officers say that they have found the body of 6-year-old Christopher Michael Barrios, who was abducted on March 8. And in a strange twist, an entire family seems to be in on this despicable act.
Glynn County Police Chief is reporting that six-year-old Christopher Michael Barrios, who had been missing for a week, has been found dead. Chief Matt Doering has not said whether any arrests have been made in the boy's death.
The search resumed earlier today Christopher who had vanished from his mobile home park near Brunswick on March 8. On Wednesday, two men were arrested on charges that they lied to police.
The two had led police around by the nose on a search that found nothing. On Tuesday, police were looking in the woods beside the mobile home park. Darkness fell and they suspended the search for the day. Police then brought the two back back to look again on Wednesday in a thicket of dense pines where the two men told investigators they had buried the boy.
Doering said the men, David Edenfield and Donald Dale, were arrested because they first told police they knew nothing about the missing boy, then later claimed to know where his body was buried.
"They might not be lying necessarily about the location - it could be they're just not certain," said Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering. "I'm convinced enough to keep looking. If we didn't have any degree of confidence at all, we wouldn't be here."
Neighbors last saw Christopher playing alone on a swing set down the road from his father's trailer. Brunswick is a port city that is located about 60 miles south of Savannah.
David Edenfield's son, George David Edenfield, is a convicted child molester. He has apparently told police he played a role in the boy's disappearance. Police are calling him a suspect, but as of yesterday, they had not charged him in the boy's disappearance. He was, however, jailed on charges of violating his probation. His parole prohibits him from contact with children younger than 18.
David's mother, Peggy Edenfield, has also been arrested for lying to police. It is being reported that she told police the boy was inside and still alive. They didn't find him there.
This is turning into a nightmare scenario. Once again, the depravity of men picking on the weakest in society.
