"PCs have been the only option for scientists, but now, they have a new, more powerful tool -- PS3."
A software update is expected to be made available by the end of March which will enable users to devote their consoles idle time to a Standford U, search for diseases caused by "misfolded" proteins. Diseases, like Mad Cow, Huntington's and others.
PlayStation 3 console software will let users click on a "Foldingàhome" icon on their television screens to have their machines devote their computing power to medical research whenever games aren't being played.
This sounds very interesting. I guess they're trying to find ways in which you can do more than just play games on the video game consoles now. Not a bad idea. It's about time we can use these gadgets for more than just playing games or other entertainment. Now it can be put to even better use.
