Intern Steals Lincoln Death Notice From U.S. Archives

By RobotGod     Mar 15, 2007 in Crime
A 40-year-old intern with the National Archives stole about 165 Civil War documents -- including the War Department's announcement of President Lincoln's death -- and sold most of them on eBay
The man also runs a website that sells rare books, and worked at the National Archives last summer. He helped recover most of the missing documents and plans to plead guilty.
The documents included telegrams regarding the troops' weaponry, Lincoln's death announcement sent to soldiers, and a letter from cavalryman "Jeb" Stuart.
Once again, did this guy really think he would get away with it? These items are national treasures and here he is selling them on ebay. These are important pieces of history. He probably thought his plan was fool proof but as usual, the criminal turns out to be very dumb.
Security obviously needs to be better at the National Archives.
