Google taking steps to further improve privacy practices

by Just call me joe.
With the implementation of its new data policy over the coming months (and within a year's time), Google will be collecting information about your query, your IP address and cookie details.
On March 14, Google announced on its Blog that they will be taking steps to collect information about the kind of searches being conducted on its Google search software.

The kind of information they will be collecting - the query itself (captured in the form of a log file), your IP and cookie details.

They have always been doing this, but this announcement comes in the wake of some changes they feel will anonymize server logs after an 18-24 month period. Previously, the data was kept for as long as it was useful.

Their goal, as outlined in the announcement is to continue to improve Google's service while providing more transparency and certainty about retention practices.

I don't know about you, but I'm disabling cookies and installing an anonymous web surfer as soon as I finish posting this :)
