17 Year Old Girl Receives Her Missing Dogs Head In A Gift Wrapped Box!

By Pamela Jean     Mar 15, 2007 in Crime
In what can only be described as one of the most heinous of crimes, a 17 year old girl was gifted with her own dogs head in a box! The dog had gone missing weeks earlier.......
Crystal Brown had been given the 4 year old Australian Shepard by her grandmother. The dog was a "therapy dog" and was Crystal's best friend.
When the dog went missing, Crystal spent weeks looking for him. She put up posters all over the neighborhood, and went door to door. She called the City's Animal Shelters and rode the bus there on several occasions.
No one had seen her dog. No one responded to the "lost dog" posters. No one brought the dog to the shelter.
"I felt empty," Crystal said. "I couldn't talk to anyone. He was my dog. It was just me and him. ... I told him everything and he never shared any of my secrets."
Two weeks ago, a gift wrapped box appeared on the doorstep of Crystal's home, which she shares with the grandmother. On top was a note that read as follows:
"Congratulations Crystal. This side up. Batteries Included".
When Crystal opened the box she became hysterical. She just kept screaming and screaming. To her horror, the box contained the severed head of her beloved therapy dog. There was also a box of Valentines Candy.
"This was extraordinarily heinous," said Dale Bartlett, the Humane Society's deputy manager for animal cruelty issues. "I deal with hundreds and hundreds of cruelty cases each year. When I read about this case, it took my breath away. It's horrible. The level of depravity is beyond belief."
The Humane Society of the United States said Wednesday that it was offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
"This was so cruel," Crystal said. "This is one sick, twisted person."
Police investigations have not turned up any suspects. It is believed that it is an isolated incident, and that the perpetrator knew the family. A motive is unclear.
They never indicate why Crystal needed a "therapy dog" in the first place. I am just sick inside for this poor young girl. I have two dogs that I love dearly, and I just don't know what I would do, or think, or feel if this were to happen to me.
I agree that this is someone so sick and twisted that it is frightening!
