Busy Parents Scoff At Lunch Box Guidelines

By timmack     Mar 15, 2007 in Health
Should the school executive be telling busy parents what they should be packing in their kids lunch boxes?
I've read this story several times, just to make sure I got it all right. And I've never seen anything so far out of the ball park as this. And I really have to wonder if space aliens have taken over that school district.
While its true that school kids, should eat healthier, these lunch box requests are just insane. Could anyone imagine a parent having the time in the morning to make up a school lunch box like the school executive is requesting.
I wish I were joking, but I'm not. The following, is what the school executive is asking the parents to put in their school lunch boxes. One wholemeal pitta bread filled with cucumber and canned salmon mashed with low-fat yoghurt.
Egg and couscous salad with chopped cherry tomatoes, grated cucumber, raisins and a sprinkling of chives.
A granary-bread sandwich filled with chopped chicken mixed with low-fat yoghurt and crunchy lettuce.
Well, that's a great meal if you can get it. But, I don't think its going to happen, unless of course, the school gives a course to the kids on gourmet cooking, or better still, the school prepares the meals for the kids at lunch time. I wonder why the ececutive hasn't come up with that no brainer idea, if he really wants the kids to eat healthy.
Again, school kids should eat healthy lunches, but there is no way that parents are going to have the time in the morning to cook egg and couscous salad while chopping cherry tomatoes and grating cucumbers and making chopped chicken, unless of course a kid has a mom that's named Martha Stewart.
