UK Cannibis Farms Are Sprouting Fast As Police Try to Keep Up
by Michelle Duffy.
Reports released today show that up to three cannibis farms are being discovered and raided every day
Cannabis farms are trebling in umber, according to police who are uncovering farms on a regular basis, a report shows from figures given over the last two years.
Drug information charity DrugScope said that in the last six months, figures have risen higher to now three a day being turned over. The most popular area being London, where 1,500 were found over the last 24 months, three times more than in the previous two years.
The charity's Druglink magazine said more farms are finding it easier to grow the drug over here, in the UK and over 60 per cent has been sold here too, compared to just over ten per cent ten years ago.
Police say the farms are on both commercial and private land which average around 400 plants per farm, yet, three quarters are found, surprisingly to be run by Vietnamese gangs.
Other ares appear to be South Wales, the Midlands and the North of England.
The police warn that their job finding these farms is becoming increasingly difficult as farmers set up farms quickly in other areas making it difficult for the police to make firm arrests.
DrugScope's Harry Shapiro said: "Growers are becoming increasingly smart in establishing new farms and avoiding arrest."
The police continue the crack down.
