Free At Last. Spends Half of Life In Prison. Texas Governor Pardons

By missmolly     Mar 9, 2007 in Politics
Tyrone Brown was incarcerated at 17 for testing positive for smoking marijuana when he was on probation for a $2.00 stickup.Texas Governor Rick Perry signs executive proclomation! At 34 years old Tyrone Brown will be - Free at last!
Tyrone Brown has been in prison for half of his life. When he was 17, he tested positive for marijuana while he was on probation for a $2.00 hold up when he was 17 years old.
Over the years there was a save Mr. Brown site set up and a lot of people signed the petition because of the harsh sentence for the 17 year old who even returned the wallet to the victim after he took out the $2. When police apprehended him, he had the $2.
ABC ran a story on 20/20 about it. One of the most upsetting things to me was that the same Judge who sent Mr. Brown to prison did not impose any prison time for the son of a prominent Waco paster - who was on probation for murder - who repeated failed drug tests! This murderer, even tested positive for coke and the judge didn't even make the guy come in regularly. The judge just had him send a postcard each year with his current address. This guy did not get reelected, but he had been a judge for twenty years!!
So now - the good news!!
As a result of the 20/20 story, the public became involved to the degree that the governor couldn't ignore their voices and on March 9, 2007, Governor Rick Perry announced he would pardon Rick Brown.
