American Idol announced its "Idol Gives Back" special that will air April 24th and 25th.
The show hopes to raise awareness and money for organizations that provide relief programs to help children and young people in extreme poverty in American and Africa."
They announced on the show that on April 24th when you call in to vote for your favourite singer, sponsors will donate to Charity Projects Entertainment Fund. For every call they get, they will make a donation. Then on April 25th, the results show will be filled with a lot of celebrities such as Gwen Stefani, Pink, Michael Buble, Josh Groban, Annie Lennox, Borat, and Bono who will be helping with the charity.
Ryan Seacrest quoted Bono on idol tonight in saying that, "We'll see worlds collide when Africa appears on America's most-watched television show... it's a little bit of pop history."
All the money raised will be divided equally between Africa and the U.S.
The United States will give the money to Save the Children and other organizations that help poverty and programs to children in areas of the U.S that are very disadvantaged.
In Africa the money will be focused on delivering health and education programs and will be distributed via CPEF to a number of organizations including: U.S. Fund for UNICEF, The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Save the Children, and Malaria No More.
Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell traveled to Africa to see the conditions that many children live. Paula Abdul will visit Mississippi and Randy Jackson will visit Louisiana where they hope to make a difference in the lives of needy children.
The sponsors are Coca Cola, AT&T and Ford, will donate money that will go to the Charities.
So for every call you make for your favorite idol, you will be helping the children of the United States and Africa.
This sounds like a great way to help bring awareness to the poverty that the children are facing.
