Former U.S. Navy sailor arrested on terror charges

by Brandigal (Donna).
A former Navy sailor was arrested on terrorism charges Wednesday for allegedly mishandling classified information that ended up in the hands of a suspected terrorism financier.
Hassan Abujihaad, 31, also known as Paul R. Hall was arrested and charged with terrorism charges and is also facing espionage charges. He used his secret security clearance to access classified information that he is said to have sent to terrorists.

He was a former navy sailor and while he was on active duty on a missile destroyer he sent emails to Ahmad, who is accused of running Web sites to raise money for terrorism.
The emails found on Ahmad's computer showed classified information about the locations of U.S. Navy ships and talked about attacks on the ships with rocket propelled grenades. The information is thought to have come from Hassan.

Derrick Shareef, 22, of Illinois was arrested in December and accused of planning to attack shoppers at a mall by using hand grenades. Derrick and Hassan were roommates in 2004.

He never admitted to leaking the information but in a taped telephone conversation he had with an informant he was nervous and the affidavit was enough to get an arrest warrant on him.

He stands accused of giving out classified information to terrorists and of supporting terrorism with the intent to kill Americans while he was in the Navy. The information passed on was posted on Al Qaeda websites.
If convicted he is looking at up to 25 years in prison.
