"A Dutch daredevil is to tackle the world's highest peak wearing just boots, shorts, gloves and a cap, the expedition leader told AFP. Wim Hof, known as the "Iceman" currently holds nine endurance records."
Iceman recently ran 21 kilometres (13 miles) barefoot above the Arctic circle in Finland.
Wim Hof claims to have special abilities to withstand freezing temperatures, he has a website innerfire.nl that outlines his skills and how he copes with icy conditions.
The expedition leader Werner de Jong said, Hof will not climb all the way in shorts, only in sections. Hof will be in shorts when climbing but wear clothes during overnight and tea breaks. He also said the team is planning to set many new world records.
Last May, Lakpa Tharke Sherpa caused a media furore when he claimed to have briefly stripped off on the summit of Everest, considered a holy mountain by Tibetans.
How the Tibetans will react to this news is not known.
The main season on Everest begins in late April and May, when a small window between the spring and summer monsoon make climbing Everest most feasible. Temperatures on the summit during the spring range from -25 deg C to -30 deg C. The climbers says the upper part of the mountain are littered with corpses of climbers killed in the earlier expeditions.
This expedition will have five climbers including Hof, but others will be fully clothed for this climbing attempt and expect to reach the summit of Mt. Everest on May 16th.
Ten climbers died last year. Werner says, they will be able to manage fine and Hof has been trained a number of years, if any man can achieve this Hof will be the guy.
Mt. Everest is a tricky place, Hof is brave but I think he will be foolish to try this attempt. What do you think?
