article imageOnline World Second Life to Integrate Spatial Voice Communication

By hthth     Mar 6, 2007 in Technology
The creators of Second Life (SL) recently announced that they are planning realtime voice technologies into their next version of the software. The upgrade will mean that people can chat VOIP style and that the audio will be heard in 3D.
I've been saying for a while that this is a prerequisite for making Second Life, or any virtual world, more useful. The introduction of realtime VOIP communication will open up many more possibilites for online conferences and global communications, as the SL already allow streaming video and possibilites for slideshows in-world.
