After the Storm

Shots from downtown New Orleans only hours after Hurricane Katrina past, and just a day before the looting, fires, and water took much of the city.
Many of you know already that I live in New Orleans. Yet few of you know that I rode the hurricane out with my family in a hotel in the middle of downtown--just 2 blks from Canal St., and less than a mile from the Superdome. The portion of the city we were in didn't get water, not even after the levee's broke and flooded a lot of the city.
We left on Wednesday, after the water finally went out; and 2 days before the National Guard arrived. The looting had just started and city was slowly going to hell before our eyes. It was like something out of Paradise Lost. Even at night, when it was pitch black, the heat was unbearable.
