Childhood obesity triggers early puberty: study

by sibananda.
A study revealed childhood obesity is causing early puberty to girls in United States
A multiyear study on 354 obsessed girls show that the girls who were fatter at the age of three and gained weight
over latter three years reached puberty with a breast development in next three year at age nine.

"Our finding that increased body fatness is associated with the earlier onset of puberty provides additional evidence that growing rates of obesity among children in this country may be contributing to the trend of early maturation in girls," said Dr. Joyce Lee, the lead author.

But it was unclear that puberty caused the fatness or fatness contributed to puberty .The study revealed the later as true.
Puberty is connected with body mass index( a relation between weight to age and height).

The study was published in Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Earlier puberty has many demerits like psychiatric problem, deficit in psychosocial functioning, earlier initiation for alcohol use
and sexual intercourse and teen age pregnancy.

Parents should be careful to lessen the weight of their girl child to get rid of above mentioned problems.
