Unknown Dodgers pitcher could be billionaire soon not from his pitching job but for his lucky land investment.
Matt White, a journeyman pitcher trying to make the Los Angeles Dodgers, could become baseball's first billionaire player. It has nothing to do with his arm. He owns a rock quarry in western Massachusetts.
White, a baseball player, who has just played seven major league games in nine MLB (Major League Baseball) seasons and this year is trying to qualify himself to be a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Three years ago, he bought a 50 acres land from his aunt, who needed the money to pay for her nursing home expenses. Matt White was clearing out a few acres of land to build a home, he found rare stone ledges in the ground, so he requested a geologist to survey the land. They found 24 Million tons of the stone in that property and the stone is being sold currently at $100 per ton, amounting to $2 Billion dollars worth of stone property. Minus the expenses to extract this stone, still it will be a large amount. But White remains modest despite all this.
"It sounds bogus even saying those numbers," White said. "I'm just a small town guy trying to get to the big leagues. It's beyond comprehension."
His baseball teammates make fun of him and call him Baseball's first billionaire. Instead of doing it himself, he is planning to sell the property and is consulting with lot of business experts. When asked has this discovery changed his lifestyle:
"Not at all. I don't live like a rich man," he said. "I'm a minor league guy who's played winter ball to make ends meet."
Dr. Peter Pannish, an adjunct professor in the department of Geosciences at the University of Massachusetts, surveyed the property several months ago, believes the stone was formed about 400 million years ago.
I hope he gives some of his profits to his aunt or pays off her expenses at the nursing home.
