Chinese made cars to be sold by Chrysler
by Competetant414.
Buzz Hargrove and the CAW in particular have been very vocal about off-shore companies selling vehicles in Canada, while their home markets are closed to North American Automakers. Well, his day just got worse.
Chrysler has announced plans for plant closings, layoffs and the need for wage and benefit concessions. Financially, they are in deep trouble. Unfortunately, with the current level of manufacturing costs, the North American automakers can't produce a good quality cost effective vehicle to compete. And just in case they don't understand, gas guzzlers are going the way of the dinosaurs.
The Chery Motor Company, announced it will sell Chinese made vehicles in North America under the Chrysler brand label. Chrysler says: "
Small vehicles such as these will allow Chrysler Group brands to compete in segments in which the brands do not currently compete, and which are especially important in price- and fuel-economy sensitive markets", and
"Chrysler, hurt by consumer demand for smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, rather than its light trucks and larger vehicles, tries to reduce production by 400,000 vehicles per year".
Is this the beginning of the end for North American auto domestic car assembly business?
