You know it is going to be a rough day when you forget one of your passwords...
Not that my life is overly complicated or that I have a lot going on, but I just seem to have too many passwords. I forgot my password for logging in today, and that just got me thinking about how many passwords I actually have to remember because you have to live by the golden rule--a different password for every application you use.
Take a moment and think about this--How many people actually follow this rule? At work I have to because if I do not, then I will receive an email from 'IT' security telling me to change my one of my application passwords to different password. Of course this is done for corporate security purposes, but sometimes you have to wonder what exactly they are trying to keep secret. My guess is upper management does not want any of us 'cubies' getting into their NCAA brackets and then have to explain why they can have these 'for entertainment' only pools but we cannot.
I am not going to even start talking about the passwords I need for home. But think about it--if you do online checking, shopping, bill paying, blogging, or even just to access your YAHOO account-the golden rule should still be applied. God forbid that one of your kids figures out your E-Bay account password!! Just imagine all the 'nice' things you will have waiting for you when you come home from work!! And of course, kids being kids, they will start 'experimenting' with your password to see what other information they can find out!
One of these days someone is going to ask me my name, and instead of using my real name I may just say 'pixeldust' because this is a new password I am trying to remember.
It used to be everyone worried about being just another number. I now worry that I may just be one password away from a memory meltdown because of PASSWORD OVERLOAD!!
