Youtube is becoming more than just a place to post videos, it is being used by police to help catch criminals and now homeowners are jumping on the bandwagon. Will this idea work and catch on? Are the homeowners putting themselves at risk?
The owners of the home that has been vandalized four times, took the initiative to post the events and some details on youtube to see if anyone will step forward and recognize the people responsible.
This isn't the first time youtube has been used to try to catch criminals, the police too have posted on the popular web site to try to get more information on their cases.
While they have been told this is a good idea, I wonder if it is putting themselves at risk of further vandalism or worse. I hope that it helps them find out who did this and it works out well for them.
We recently put a video cam out front of our house and it records fairly well, it isn't high technology by any means and it doesn't have night vision. We put it there after my car was broken into and the window was smashed - only for the creeps that broke in to realize there was nothing worth taking in my car (other than the green jellybeans they took, apparently they had a sweet tooth).
I think it is a great tool for the police to use, but I am not sure if it is good for homeowners to be posting them up on the web themselves.
What do others think about the safety of posting videos online to help catch criminals?
