NYC hammerers are caught on camera getting hammered during their lunch break, before going back to work...constructing a new skyscraper
A startling truth released In Statistics today show one in five workplace deaths is related to drug or alcohol abuse, with alcohol found most often in toxicology reports.
A local news station did a hidden camera investigation and found some construction workers drinking on lunch breaks before going back to work.
The workers are doing construction on a tower in Midtown New York, and durning lunch hour were discovered not even two blocks from the site, boozing it up over lunch time.
When the reporter entered one bar the workers were said to be drinking Jameson's Irish whiskey, with other workers caught on video workers throwing back a few cold one's -- and one topped it off with a double shot.
Meanwhile, one guy had a quick beer while getting ready to head straight work. The bars in the area love the repeat business, they hope construction will take forever, but many would question, at what cost to safety?
"I could imagine, you could have a nasty fall from up there. Plus I'm wondering how they put the buildings together, if they aren't fully conscious," one New Yorker said.
Building developers, especially the one that was featured for this article
say that the issue of being under the influence has already been addressed with their contractors. They also say that there is a
"a Zero Tolerance Policy regarding the use of alcohol." and people will be discplined accordly.
In a statement the buildings department told CBS that alcohol-impairment and construction work can be a fatal mix and the city fully supports industry guidelines calling for a strict policy against drug and alcohol possession during hours of work.
