A former Canadian Football League player infected with HIV is going to prison
Trevis Smith, a former CFL football player was found guilty and sentenced to 5 and 1/2 years in prison. He was found guilty of two counts of aggravated sexual assault for having unprotected sex with two women and exposing them to HIV. He knew he was HIV positive at the time and never told the women.
Besides the 5 and 1/2 years he also got an extra 6 months in prison for bail violations.
He denied not telling them and he plans to appeal the decision.
He said he told one girl that he had it and they used protection. The other girl he said was before he found out he was HIV positive.
Both women were not infected with HIV.
The bail violations come from when he was ordered to not be alone with any woman over the age of 14 and he was on two occasions. He told his bail supervisor that he was going to a house for work when infact he was meeting one of his girlfriends.
