A 42-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a women he met over the internet after he showed up at her house and found her in another man's company.
A 42-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a women he met over the internet after he showed up at her house and found her in another man's company.
On Feb 17 a 28-year-old man was arrested by Peel Police after violently sexually assaulting a women he met on the internet. They both agreed to meet at a restaurant but police believe the women was attacked in her car.
"In light of disturbing trends ... police would like to remind the public of the potential dangers when meeting an Internet acquaintance face to face," a warning Peel Police released about Internet dating read. "Police would like to ensure that when using such services, both women and men remain vigilant with respect to personal safety."
Many incidents go unreported.
Some online daters hand over sensitive information to the wrong kinds of people without even realizing it.
People are encouraged not to use their real names.
Tips for staying safe while looking for online love:
-When meeting the person do it in a public place or in a group.
-Tell a friend where your going and who your meeting
-When chatting use an email address that doesn't include your name
-Ask for photos and ask complx questions
